Two Three Minute Stories By A Band Called Corners.
While free-falling through the video vortex that is YouTube, I was for some reason compelled to click on an offering by Corners. Not sure what possessed me to do such a thing, as the video screen shots are rather ordinary, the song names are, well, song names and the suggested videos that surrounded them were less than remarkable. But I clicked and was instantly treated to one of the more riveting videos I've seen in some time. No crazy visuals, no over-exaggerated psychedelics, no abundance of scantily clad women with fake asses. Just an intriguing story played out by the band and (I'm assuming) a couple of their friends. Clicked on the next video, got more of the same, just a different story. The music itself also has a throwback simplicity to it that I can get behind. Some early 80's post punk worship with a dash of sunset surf rock. Any of their songs would easily fit on one of those mixtapes Jonathan was making for kid brother Will in Stranger Things before Will got, uhhh... abducted? If you haven't watched Stranger Things, do yourself a big, big favor. Best new release of the summer. Anyways, yeah, Corners. Good tunes, good videos. Doesn't look like they've put anything out since 2014 but hopefully that'll change soon. I'd like to see where they take what seems to be a sound vision of what their band is and can be.
