Hanni El Khatib recently released his new album Head In The Dirt, a sophomore effort recorded by Dan Auerbach and while I am a fan of Hanni's chops as a rock and roller it's starting to become pretty easy to pick out the music that Auerbach gets his little paws all over. Not sure if there's only one effects pedal at Dan's Easy Eyes Studio or what but every album coming out of there is sounding like some reincarnation of late era Black Keys. So much so that another band had to straight up bail on him and go re-record their entire album(with fantastic results, I might add). This record isn't much different but I like the core of most of the songs on it and am quite looking forward to checking these new songs live out when he comes to Philly in October with the recently praised Bass Drum Of Death. Actually, I think that show is gonna kill it.... As for Auerbach, he should spend less time making sure his name is on every new rock and roll album that comes out and more time learning some new studio trickery.
