Pop tinged rockabilly? Rockabilly tinged pop? Or maybe well polished garage rock? Can't really nail it down, but it sure is catchy. Toronto's July Talk released their self titled debut on White Girl Records late last year with steam building ever since. And why not? What's not to like about a band that sounds like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros if Tom Waits was the male lead. Frontman Peter Dreimanis's whiskey drenched voice interlaces perfectly with the cute as a button falsetto of Leah Fay, each seemingly playing off one another's adopted(or perhaps not so adopted)stage persona of rock and roll cool. Josh Warburton, Ian Docherty and Danny Miles fill out the rest of band and they don't fuck around when it comes time to get down either. A great first couple of listens have me excited for some east coast U.S. dates but for now I'll have to live vicariously through friends going to check them out this weekend at Sled Island in Calgary. The band then moves on for a bunch of dates out west. Click the link below for details and dig the music now.
