New Album! Graveyard-Lights Out

Isn't it fantastic when the wait is worth it? When the finished product actually lives up to the hype? With the instant gratification society we've painted ourselves into, moments like these are becoming more and more scarce, ironically making them even more exciting when we actually get to experience them. New albums can particularly excite or disappoint, with bands feeling more and more pressure from labels to get while the getting's good, get on the road, make that money now now! NOW! Business can trump art more so in the music industry than any other medium I believe, so for a band to live up to the expectations of both label and fan is a pressure that can weigh on even the most grizzled of music veterans. It's probably a bit of a stretch to label Graveyard as grizzled music industry veterans, now three albums in, but it is in no way a stretch to state that they have lived up to the hype with their latest offering, Lights Out. It serves up everything that has made Graveyard and their two previous albums great. Riffs for days, thundering rhythm sections and a vocalist that seems to be able to do it all. Although delivering a sound that hearkens back to the best days of hard rock, Graveyard has a timeless delivery with each track, not pushing the listener to yearn for the already familiar and established sounds of the 1970's. They are very much of the present and of the future, without forgetting a subtle nod to the past.
